First grade teacher Mrs. Knowles actively engaged her students in a STEM activity. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. First graders are often introduced to coding in a STEM lab as part of their curriculum. Coding involves creating instructions that a computer can follow, which is an essential skill in computer programming. In these early stages, Mrs. Knowles has her students design their own code on paper and then work in pairs to validate it. Once they grasp the basics of coding with their partner, students moved to the online platform Code.org, where they applied their coding skills using online tools and activities. STEM experiences and lessons prepare our students for future careers. These Transformers are being set up for success.
